Zone Diet
One of the key components of a successful weight loss program is your diet. A person’s intake will influence greatly the result of any weight loss method you chose to adhere to. Because the amount of fat to be burn, the mass intended to be trimmed down will depend on what is ultimately being consumed on a day to day basis. Hence, it is crucial for a person wishing to achieve a healthier lifestyle to watch what to eat.
When you try to google weight loss diet, I can assure you that the Zone Diet is sure to come up. What exactly is the Zone Diet?
It is a conception of the renowned researcher in the bio technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Barry Sears, PhD. In the book Enter the Zone, Sears, came up with a ratio to which we should ideally base our food intake. The food we take daily can be classified into three basic categories namely carbohydrates, protein and fat. The author emphasized that in order to achieve maximum weight loss without feeling weaker in the process, the food ratio in terms of carbohydrates, proteins and fats should be 40:30:30 respectively. In one study, not only did this ratio yielded the most significant weight loss among its participants, but it also simultaneously generated the most muscle mass. Therefore, the feeling of fatigue and exhaustion commonly associated when undergoing weight loss diet is avoided. Not only can you attain the target weight you have in mind, but also eventually engage in physical activity such as sports since the diet will also enable you to gain mass through muscles.
I personally like Sear’s approach on diet because he blatantly states that the current perception on the ‘right diet’ should be high in diet and low on protein and fats. The famous author further claims that such diet is not only less effective in terms of weight loss, but may also be a cause for serious health complications such as diabetes, heart ailments, and even cancer.
To put it simply, Sear’s Zone Diet is a well balanced diet.
A portion of the carbohydrates you take in every meal should be double the serving of the protein.
The sporadic consumption of eggs whites and egg substitutes is also encouraged but not altogether prohibited.
Another concept which Sears has popularized is the addition of Omega-3 in the regular diet and has since then spawned the popularity of taking Omega- 3 fish oils.
