How to Get a Toned Body

October 15th, 2009

It is not always easy to keep your body looking healthy and desirable in appearance but there are actually some exercises that you can do for this. Some of these exercises include:

Simple pushups

These simple exercises will work your chest, rear deltoids and triceps. Do about three sets with ten to 15 repetitions depending on how fit you are. The number of sets can be increased once the movements become less straining for you. Once you are able to do the workouts easily, you can elevate your feet by placing them on a piece of furniture that is stable to give you some resistance.

To do the Pushups, lie on the floor facing down and extend yourself backwards you while keeping your hands flat between your shoulders. To make sure you do not strain yourself you should always keep your head in a natural position and your back flat. Extend your arms and lift your whole body from the floor and then go down until your nose is almost in contact with the floor. Remember not to lock the elbows to make sure that the tension is maintained on the muscles and not the joints.

Close grip pushups

This is what you need to work your trunk muscles, inner chest and triceps. Three sets of ten to fifteen repetitions will be adequate to begin with but you can add more as your fitness level improves. The difference between these Pushups and the simple ones is that your hands will be close to one another to form a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers. Your elbows should also go to your side when you are doing a close grip Pushups. A lot of flexibility is needed for this type of exercise but if you ensure that your body remains stable in the process, you will work the trunk muscles throughout. Your wrists may get strained when you are just starting out therefore you need to stretch properly and start on a slow pace.

Wide grip pushups

They generally work out the chest, back muscles and rear shoulders. Unlike the simple pushups, these ones require that you have your hands beyond the width of your shoulders and fingers facing headwards. The tension will be felt on your shoulders and this will work your pectorals. They are harder than the other two pushups therefore you may find yourself getting tired sooner.

Working the thighs and buttock area

To tone the muscles in your legs and back, you should spread out your legs while in a standing position and keep them extended. Hold a dumbbell both hands and while maintaining a straight posture, you should bend your knees slowly until the thighs are aligned horizontally to the floor and resume the initial standing position slowly. Repeat the exercise until you get tired but make sure that you do not overdo things.

Remember that proper diet has to be maintained to ensure that the exercises that you do are effective.
